English Final Exam~ Analyze what Crook, Lennie, and Candy's dog have in common and what role they play in the farm society?

Of Mice And Men
By: John Steinbeck
Beyond The Line Question

In the book each of the three characters Crook, Lennie, and Candy’s dog are considered lower than everyone else, the handicap of the society and old, tired and dying or soon to die of much pain or little to none at all. Crook, being a black man (nigger) the naturalization of all criminals was the lower class, and was worth no more than the whites. Lennie, a little slow representing the handicapped that cannot speak for themselves whom half of the time no had no idea what exactly are they doing. Lastly Candy’s dog, did al; that it could do with working and in it’s older years they have no place in the farms society because they have no way to help out. You would be surprised how much all three symbols have in common.

In the 1900’s a black man like Crook was considered far less than a white man, belittled by the whites, and considered a criminal. Living in a bunkhouse where he communicated with no one but his educating books that he owned. It’s really depressing when you have no one, family, nor friends. That was Crooks situation. “Why ain’t you wanted?” Lennie asked. “Cause I’m black. They play cards in there, but I cant play because im black. They say I stink. Well I tell you, you all stink to me.” Lennie and Crook having a deep conversation on how the white men feel about Crooks presence.

Lennie being the least dynamic in the story, underwent no significant changes, growth or development. He represents all handicapped and pretty smart. Because you wouldn’t consider a handicapped person possessing incredible physical strength like Lennie did. “No, he ain’t, he sure a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull.” George explaining to the boss how much of a good worker Lennie could be. He can do the work of two men all by himself.

Just an old dog that was dying slowly and painfully Candy’s dog represents the old zero in the society. Wasn’t able to herd the sheep, just an old buddy to Candy. Dying represented much more than an old aged dog being put to death, but. Candy looked about unhappily.” No,” he said softly. “No, I couldn’ do that. I had ‘im to long.” “He don’t have no fun,” Carlson insisted. “I’ll shoot him for you. Then it wont be you that does it.” Carlson, a worker on the farm, trying to talk Candy into putting the dog to rest because he’s no good anymore .

Analyzing these three characters theirs lots of negative roles each character represent. Human or animal, Crook, Lennie, and Candy’s dog, were struggling kinda survivors that fail in a way. Being black, and looked upon as a criminal. Just partially handicapped your thought to be incapable to do but prove you can then your life fails suddenly, Lennie. Lastly Candy’s dog, you get of age u should be killed? How horrible! AS a matter of a fact Lennie and Candy’s dog has so much in common they are both killed with the same weapon. As the reader you analyze what roles these three characters represent? Stay tuned!

English Final Exam~ How does Curley's wife represent all the women of the 1920's?

Of Mice And Men
By: John Steinbeck
Between The Line Question

Women with dreams and not much to pursue it, end up with nothing else to do but marry the man she meets along the way and later finds out she doesn’t love him. Women were troublemakers who bring ruin on men and drive them mad. Tramp, tart and bitch that threaten to destroy male happiness. “Wait’ll you see Curley’s wife? Yeah purty… but--- “George studied his cards, “but what?” “Well--- she got the eye? I seen her give Slim the eye. But ya know what I think?” Well I think Curley’s married… a tart.” In this scene Candy’s explaining to George and Lennie to keep away from Curley’s wife because she’s not allowed to associate with any man other than Curley. She tries repeatedly, she starts trouble because she’s lonely, wants a friend and has powderpuff eyes? How ironic! The men on the farm take that as a come on. Yet it be the men crushing on her. I leave you the reader thinking who's the real flirt in the farm?

English Final Exam~ Why doesn't Curley's wife have a name?

Of Mice And Men
By: John Steinbeck
Between The Line Question

I believe Curley’s wife doesn’t have a name because she represented all woman in the 1900’s. The only female in the area miles and miles away from any other female model. In the middle of a hundred men. Has big dreams and when they are crushed they have no choice but to marry and live life as is. “I lived right in Salinas,” she said. “Come there when I was a kid. Well, a show come through, an’ I met one of the actors. He says I could go with that show. But my ol’ lady wouldn’t let me. She says because I was only fifteen. But the guy says I coulda. If I’d went, I wouldn’t be living like this, you bet. Nother time I met a guy, an’ he was in pitchers. Went out to Riverside Dance Palace with him. He says he was gonna put me in the movies. Says I was a natural. Soon’s he got back to Hollywood he was gonna write to me about it. I never got that letter, “she said. “I always though my ol’ lady stole it. Well, I wasn’t gonna stay no place where I couldn’t get nowhere or make something of myself, an’ where they stole your letters. I ask her if she stole it, too, an’ she says no. So I married Curly. Met him out to the Riverside Dance Palace that same night.”

English Final Exam~ Does Lennie show that he can be very forgetful? Explain.

Of Mice And Men
By: John Steinbeck
Between The Line Question

Obviously , Lennie shows that he is very forgetful. He has the mind of a child. Forming a bond with George, whom is his life line, which is the best thing to happen for him. Together they the two travel together, trying to find work. In their journey, Lennie is reminded time and time again.

On the way to finding work George explains to Lennie when they arrive to their destination he will speak to the boss and present their work tickets to him. Lennie looked puzzled and began to check everyone of his pockets not remembering that George had both of their tickets all along knowing that Lennie would lose his. How ironic! “Oh, sure, George. I remember that now.” His hands went quickly into his side coat pockets. He said gently, “George… I ain’t got mine. I musta lost it .” He looked down at the ground in despair. “You never had one, you crazy bastard. I got both of ’em here. Think I’d let you carry your own work card?” Lennie grinned with relief. “I…I thought I put it in my side pocket.”

Exactly after George wanted Lennie not to say a word when they arrived he stated, “but you ain’t gonna say a word. You jus’ stand there an don’t say nothing. If he finds out what a crazy bastard you are, we won’t get no job.” You say that over two, three times, so you won’t forget it. It’s a fact that Lennie can be forgetful, George states it. In this scene once the two friends arrive to the farm and began to speak with the boss, George wants Lennie to keep quiet, afraid of what Lennie might say. He asks him to repeat to keep his mouth shut over and over again so he wouldn’t forget! I leave you with this question readers, are you Lennie, forgetful?!?

A MAJORITY OF CONSTITUTION HIGH OR “CON HIGH” STUDENTS HAS A WEBPAGE MYSPACE, FACEBOOK OR SO ON. IS CYBER THE COMMUNITY?

A large amount of Constitution High school or “Con High” Students have a webpage myspace, facebook or so on. The large topic out there is cyber the new community or is just being a way to be known? For teens it’s all about technology, 93 percent of teens say they prefer the Internet to television, of the teens wells polled online. So are teens known through their school and their profiles? On myspace and facebook our school network is know as constitution high. Most students myspace shows con high somewhere on their page or profile. “I def got con high as my name on the space everybody and their mom who go here has con high on their page” the coolest 11th grade mentor you could ever have Ratisha Summervile states. How did we get to the point where most students in both constitution or con high get known only by their profile but by their school.” I emailed, their was a lot of people from our school who emailed Tom butt and a few months later constitution was on myspace network” Asian invasion says with her chinky eyes!

Constitution high school opened the year of 2006, a fresh new start. September about 100 new 9th graders were admitted in to the school. Is constitution high school known professionally? “Well yes in fact were know all over the country and we have many partners whom speak well in our school” Dr. Davidson, school principle states, which is very true the school partners with the National Constitution center and Ballard Spar. Also has been one of the top most fortunate schools on the country. Dr. Davidson thinks that were know very professionally speaking on the behalf of all the students in constitution high ad most students thinks so to!

Myspace and facebook has constitution high but students has con high on their profiles interesting? In actuality only a few people around town know what our school is! Obviously it’s a school but what we stand for who we are! Yes it has been preferred as a charter school, central and sadly down the street from Chad! OMG! That’s ridiculous! So I leave it up to you readers! What do you think is our school name? Con high o constitution…

Ripeness...

Full bloom spring and breakthroughs into the summer. I wonder if a parent would give a child an incomplete name and wait till they grow up to complete it. When I say grow up I mean change seasons from spring, younger stage to summer, adults and maturity. In the story, “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier, the narrator Lizabeth is in her spring season. Her personality, age 14 going on 15 and spends her days with younger children. Faithfully for her she just doesn’t understand exactly what her faith is and exactly what she believes. Lizabeth’s maturity was in a younger stage, symbolically she saw the spring flowers bloom and no other. Sure, everyone grows up one day. Once Lizabeth finally grows up maybe shell go by Elizabeth and I am just the same…
One reason I reckon Lizabeth and I are similar, in our spring is our personalities. Being able to hold a conversation with a nine year old and being interested, while in the story, Lizabeth is consider to be a ringleader of the younger children, yet she spends for them. “The truth was that we were becoming tired of the formlessness of our summer days.” The children just really followed her, not like a big sister but a classmate. They worked together like Alfalfa and his crew! “Tell you what, “said Joey finally, his eyes sparkling. “Let us go over to Miss Lotties.”
Every country person goes to church. (Just a stereotype). All the country folk pack up in the small church 3 miles down the dusty dirt road all seasons round. Faithfully I am in my younger stage, my spring. I have a religion, I’m a Christian but don’t absolutely know how the meaning and feeling connects to me. Any dark child in church with their parent just sits stares and sings along to gospel music! HALLELUAH! LIZABETH AGREES.
Hey how about you grow up! Just making progress is a hard thing for anybody and everybody. Some teens are easily progressing into their summer while Lizabeth and I have to debate with ourselves why we should grow up, shift to our summer season. We both just continue to plant flowers like theirs no hibernating seasons for them. “M- miss Lottie! I scrambled to my feet and just stood there and stared her, and that was the moment when childhood faded and womanhood began.” There will be an event when Lizabeth and I will grow up, Lizabeth realized life moves on and is to short. Time to put up the gardening gloves and shovel and bring out the water hose.
Ultimately everyone is brought into this world with seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. They progress and they grow. Lizabeth and I are in our spring, personality and being a child friendly type person. Faith questionable and wondering what to believe. Our maturity, symbolically the spring flowers bloom and soon needs water. At last, at last Miketia and Lizabeth has grown up. Leaving you the reader with this question, what season are you in? Is it your spring, or progressing summer?
